2011 Flag Football Mini Camp

Post date: Aug 10, 2011 11:48:6 PM

Flag Football began on Monday 8/8/2011 - 7pm at Forest Park High School Football Field. We have record # of kids playing this year and will be able to fill 8 teams.

In case you weren't able to make it that night (or if you had trouble hearing us) - below are the brief highlights:

Coach Wagner, our Varsity Head Coach, introduced himself as well as assistant coaches present: Ross Fuss and Marcus Williamson. He talked briefly about the football program history as well as what he expects from his players. He introduced Jay Fischer who explained the history of SP&F as well as the other board members present - Eric Uebelhor, Kim Vogeral, and Jeff Hagedorn. Flag Football uses high school players to both coach and referee their games - the coaches present introduced themselves to the parents.

The flag players broke up into small groups with their new coaches where they performed a few drills. They learned and practiced the correct way to run, catch, and throw a football. They also got a chance to see how to pull a flag. The coaches (High School Players) also gave them a FP Football wrist band to wear. This is a reminder that they are all part of the Forest Park team and if they keep practicing they could eventually be a member in the Band of Brothers.

What Parents should expect this season:

    • 6 weeks of 40 min Flag games (split in 20min halves)

    • Flag Parents need to work Varsity Concession Stands (Both Parents - no kids - it gets BUSY!) See Schedule

    • Flag Practice starts 15min before every Flag game - coaches and players need to be there early

    • Rotating Coaches this year so Kids meet and get led by more high school players

    • Look at website for updates (follow all levels of program)

What the kids need this season:

    • NFL Flag Jersey (Provided by SP&F at first Flag Game)

    • Protective Mouthpiece - no exceptions must wear to play - (if child forgets or loses - we sell them for $1)

    • Cleats allowed - but no metal spikes on shoes

Primary Flag Rules

    • Have Fun

    • Do your Best

    • Good Sportsmanship

Look for a future announcement where we will divide the kids into 8 teams. Each team will have all grades represented, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Have your son take care of their mouthpiece, wrist band and uniform. It is their responsibility. Uniforms will be collected at the end of the season.

Parents were given the following handouts:
