Rangers Beat North Posey 39-34

The Rangers played in a shoot-out against the North Posey Vikings on homecoming Friday, Sept. 24th. The team stuck together to defeat the Vikings 39-34. Senior quarterback Grant Welp passed to junior wide receiver Ben Braunecker for a 58 yard touchdown to start the Ranger scoring. The extra point failed. Braunecker continued the scoring by receiving a 44 yard pass after a fake field goal attempt from junior punter Miles Leonard with another failed extra point attempt. The Ranger defense stepped up in the 2nd quarter to slow the Viking offense. Braunecker brought the score within 2 points (19-21 Vikings) by returning a punt 55 yards for a touchdown. Senior kicker Jonathan Russell made the extra point. Welp continued his impressive passing by connecting to Braunecker for a 39 yard touchdown pass. The extra point was missed. Welp ended the 3rd quarter by rushing for a 70 yard touchdown. Senior kicker Gina Bettag completed the extra point. Sophomore running back Travis Schnell had no trouble breaking away for a 90 yard touchdown run with Bettag completing the extra point to give the Rangers the lead with 7:29 left in the game. The Ranger offense and defense closed the game in impressive fashion.
