Rangers Beat Gibson Southern 21-16

8/19/2011Forest Park opened with a win beating Gibson Southern 21-16. The Rangers overcame several turnovers and took advantage of a few Trojan turnovers to come away with the first win of the season. Senior quarterback Miles Leonard started the scoring with a one yard run and the Rangers were not able to get the extra point. In the third quarter Junior running back Travis Schnell ran for a four yard touchdown, and Miles Leonard passed to senior wide receiver Ben Braunecker for the two point conversion. The Rangers impressive defensive line, led by seniors Lynk Kordes and Nathan Kloeck, finished the 3rd quarter strong with forced a fumble and quick thinking from junior Lance Buechler who recovered the ball for a touchdown. Sophomore kicker, Dakota Begle completed the extra point kick. Senior safety Ben Braunecker came up with a key interception with a little over one minute to go to seal the deal and finish the game. Special note: Sophomore Josh Voegerl did a tremendous job running for the Rangers filling in for injured senior running back, Rhashaun Hurt.
